What is face book?
A rip off of MySpace imo.
But speaking seriously... Most people that go into college advance from MySpace and into Facebook so that they may get into their colleges' Facebook network and keep in contact with their environment.

While it is somewhat similar to MySpace, there are different features and different things that Facebook offers that MySpace does not. I have heard so much about it but also people posting their work places online then getting in trouble for it. Seems the young people don't know about representing a workplace and slander.

i see lots of folk on facebook with anything from 140 to 600 friends!!! do you think they really know all these people or are they just trying to look popular?? i have 24 friends who i all know, but feel a bit of billy no mates!!!!!!

Well, I never really carried over friends from school. But, over 140 friends?? I dare to say most are bogus or just site aquaintences.

Reply:You shouldn't worry about other peoples profiles, they could all be school friends or memers of fan clubs etc. I'd bet that your 24 friends are proper genuine friends, not vague acquaintances. And can you imagine trying to write Christmas cards for 600 people...

Facebook itself is as safe as any other place on the internet. It's up to you, however, to decide how much information you will share.
Websites like these can't really be marked as "safe" or "unsafe". It depends on what kind of information you share about yourself. You need to remember that it will be available to EVERYONE. Even if they haven't heard of Facebook, if it's out there on the internet, EVERYONE has access to it. YOU are the one who can make it safe, and you are the one who can make it unsafe for yourself. The decision is yours.
P.s. About people saying that only certain people can view your page - As I already said, if its out on the internet, people still have access to it. There are ways to hack into pages, including befriending you, then luring you into allowing them to see your information. I'm not saying you shouldn't join. Just be careful, that's all.

to be honest, myspace is copying allllllll their new stuff from facebook... and its getting REALLY annoying... I just saw today that they have all the applications that facebook had BEFORE them... like its been more than a year (from what I know)... Also, the status thing, the mutual friends, online friends... and all that, they got it from facebook!!!
so to tell u the truth, I LOVE facebook MUCH MORE than myspace...
its much more safer... u can control EVERYTHING!!! u can choose what people can view ur profile and what people cant... and that applies to all the info and the applications and all that...
the only thing that facebook doesnt have and myspace does, is that myspace has the HTML codes and facebook doesnt and facebook doesnt have Bulletins... But be patient, im sure one day facebook is gonna have even more better stuff than that... Everyday, I see a change on facebook and its always a good change!!!

no it is not ...i have one and if you let alot of the applications get to you and you put too much information it can really mess you up and the drama it can create if you dont understand how to avoid it is devastating. also if you let peoples pictures influence the way u feel and their comments it can really hurt you...ive found a way to use it and not get into those things....i would suggest waiting till your much older cuz im not even sure how safe it is for high school students since i myself am one

It was originally only for college students, then high school students were recently allowed to join. If someone in a high school or college network invites others, they can join.

While going over a security lesson with my 12 yr old we linked through my daughters account to my wife's facebook prohile (to show my daughter how easy it is to find personel info). I noticed sever hugs and kisses and an application called zoosk installed. On her friends list I recognized the name of the guy she lived with for several years 18 years ago (we have lived together for 17 years and have two kids together). I hacked into her account and found that it was a high school friend sending her hugs - not the X. However there were a lot of conversations with her X for the past 3 months and they were planning to get together for a drink to catch up at the next fall fair in the town they grew up in an hour away (my wife goes sometimes but I never go). He is now fat and married.
Was I wrong to break into the account and should I blow my top at the idea of them saying to each other they would like to get together to catch up?????? I feel guilty about the privicy issu

This sounds fairly harmless outside of her not telling you about him.

This isnt really a question, but more of a request... I was surfing through groups on Facebook, and came across something that absolutely sickened me, I reported the group, but a friend told me that facebook doesnt delete groups unless a bunch of people report it... so if this group bothers you at all would you please report it by going to the group, and scrolling all the way down to the bottom where it says report group.... I don't know why I am letting it bother me so much, but it is discusting, and the worst part is that they are all high school kids. Here is the link....

Face-book Problem - I can't send messages, confirm friends etc. When I click the buttons, it does nothing.
Seriously, I know it sounds ridiculous but I click the buttons to send a message or confirm a friend, update status ... anything, and it won't work. Has anyone had a similar problem. What have I done wrong? I use my computer at work and it is fine. Thanks for your help!

I am currently having the same problem. I do not think that it is possible to get it back. Although, somehow you should be able to re-register. At the moment, i am unable to do that. It is saying "The email address you entered has been disabled. Please contact disabled@facebook.com with any questions. " but that link is not working. What is happening when you try and re-register, or have you not done that yet ?

I need facebook to keep in touch with my sister who is in college and traveling abroad in Europe so we can see her photos and stuff.
Facebook was working just fine until a few weeks ago, that suddenly changed...I tried to sign in but as soon as I am on the Facebook homepage it tells me that "javascript is disabled on your browser" So it's not working.
I downloaded java.
I checked all the computer settings that had to do with enabling java.
And it still won't work!!!
If anyone could help me with this frustrating problem, it would be GREATly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!

In IE go to the Tools menu and then Internet Options.
Go to the Security Tab. then go to the Custom Level.
Now scroll down to the scripting section. Make sure Active Scripting and Scripting of JAVA Applets are Enabled.
That should get you going. Javascript is different then the regular java. It doesn't use the downloaded JDK.

Even at 18, you have to be sensible enough to realise that you are exposing yourself to everybody on Facebook. There was a horrible case a month or so ago, a girl was led to believe that a boy on one of the social networking sites liked her, then 'he' dumped her. She killed herself, and it turned out that, 'oops' it was some sort of a prank.
Reply:I would not recommend any social networking sites for anyone under 16. I think those 16 and up can use common sense and are old enough to be on them. If you're a parent you need to monitor your child's internet use whether they're on these sites or not. I consider Facebook a lot safer and more wholesome than MySpace.

Even at 18, you have to be sensible enough to realise that you are exposing yourself to everybody on Facebook. Friends, enemies, people you wouldn't touch with a pointy stick if you met them in real life. And what you post about yourself will be out there for a long time. There was a horrible case a month or so ago, a girl was led to believe that a boy on one of the social networking sites liked her, then 'he' dumped her. She killed herself, and it turned out that, 'oops' it was some sort of a prank.
Reply:I would not recommend any social networking sites for anyone under 16. I think those 16 and up can use common sense and are old enough to be on them. If you're a parent you need to monitor your child's internet use whether they're on these sites or not. I consider Facebook a lot safer and more wholesome than MySpace.

so a little while ago a school friend found me on facebook,
she poked me, i added her as a friend and then after a brief exchange of emails i began to pointedly ignore her.
now i know this sounds harsh but i am doing a degree right now, in fact I'm in my final year and i have 2 small kids, so all none kid related socialising is out.
in fact i even posted a status update apologizing for not responding to emails generally.
today i realised that she had removed me as a friend. i would like to ask her why but cannot find her.
any idea if there is a way i can do this?

Deleting your Facebook account isn't as easy as it may sound. Yes, you do have to contact Facebook and they will delete it for you... BUT ONLY AFTER...

There must be NOTHING on your profile for Facebook to delete it. So if you have over 300 wall posts, it will become a big nuisance. One of my friends who recently deleted her account had over 2000 wall posts and it took her close to a month to delete all of them.
It's almost like Facebook's "payback" for wanting to leave their site. And the cruelest thing about it is after you've COMPLETELY STRIPPED your account, what's the point of wasting any more time to contact them again to complete the process when there's nothing to see on your profile anyways.
The easiest thing to do will be just to deactivate it, but the thing with that is all of your personal info will still remain.

Face book - how do i delete an account that i dont know the password too?
i have somehow ended up with 2 facebook accounts. 1 is in my gmail name which i set up and know the password. the other one is in my hotmail name. in my hotmail i keep getting emails saying someone has invited me to join facebook, or has added me as a friend. same happens in gmail but that is ok. i notice also on some friends profiles they have me listed twice, assumed once for each email account. how do i delete the hotmail one - i dont know/have never set up any details.

Log into facebook, on your home page click on "account", then "networks" and from there you will be able to navigate your networks and chose which ones you wish to delete.

I know this friend way back in highschool, shes a female and im a male. we've known each other for almost 5 years. Im in the military and everything so i only see her when i go home for vacation. last vacation i was chilling out with her even though she was real busy. But now that im back in hawaii we hardly ever talk. one month ago I was on facebook . i look up her name and i see her there so i added her as a friend, to this day she has not added me as a friend nor did she reject me as a friend everytime i look up her name her friends list grows bigger but im not in it her friends list nor was i rejected as a friend. Im just awaiting confirmation and i dont know why.

It will just never get confirmed. That doesn't make sense that she doesn't want to add you. Maybe she didn't recognize you in your picture and thought you were a stranger?
You could always send her a message, "Hey ___ , it's me! How're you doing?"

I personally think FaceBook is same as free service version of LavaLife. You find someone that looks good, you add them, and the other person doesn't care, they add.
But are those people really want to be your friends? or are they just want to know you and "Do" you then walk off.
Just some of the things that came to mine when someone I "love" expose herself to everyone and have over 1000 guy friends. and she have statistics on it that says "Do you want to sex me, married me, or kill me", what do you know, majority of the answer is sex me.
So decide for yourself.

It's also a great way to search for relatives and find classmates-- I found friends that I had since Kindergarten, and it was great seeing their faces after soo long! I also love posting and looking at pics on fb- it's so much fun and it's really entertaining, as long as you don't get carried away. Joining groups is fun too- you can engage in pretty interesting conversations...
2) Yes, there are games on fb. Most of them invlove just plain competition and you can play against any of your friends, or invite them to play. There are too many to mention here, but I'm sure u'll find some.
3) You can have as many or as little friends as you want! You're probably part of a network so u might have the most friends in that area. But u can have friends from any part of the world! Just be careful with who you friend- fb tells ALL.
4) Fb is relatively safe- and MUCH better than mySpace in that category. There are many privacy settings u can have- even some where ppl can't see your wall or ur personal info. You can block or delete a friend anytime you want to, or you can create a 'limited profile' where certain friends can see only certain info about u. You can put privacy settings on ur pictures too. Fb is safe, but sometimes there are raunchy pictures up there that u shud just ignore. If u ever feel offended or insulted in any way, u can always report it to the administration. Sometimes random ppl that u don't know at all might friend u (this has happened to me alot)- it's best not to friend randomly like that, just for safety, so u can click the ignore button, and hopefully they won't bother u again. Also, if u ever have anything private to say to someone- always send them a MESSAGE, do NOT write on their wall! Your friends might be able to see this- and if it's something u don't want anyone to see- ur screwed! Like I said, fb tells ALL.
It can get addictive once u have alotta friends- so my advice is to prioritize your time on this!
